ESTABLISHING A NATIONAL AWARD "PETKO GENKOV" |

The family of the famous Bulgarian guitarist Petko Genkov, together with the management of the Bratstvo 1869 Community center and the International Classical Guitar Competition - Kyustendil, are establishing in his memory a National Award for Guitar Art "PETKO GENKOV" - a diploma and a cash prize of 500 euro. It will be awarded annually to the winner of the Grand Prize of the competition. In the coming months, the organizing committee will submit a proposal to the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria for the award to be included in the register of National Art Awards.
Petko Genkov was born on April 10th, 1958 in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In his active musical career, with great effort, he managed to establish himself as a quality performer of world-class stature, having held numerous concerts in Belgium, Germany, Denmark, England, France, Spain, Turkey, Austria, etc. In 1994, Petko Genkov founded the Classical Guitar Foundation in Plovdiv, with which in the following years he organized an International Classical Guitar Festival and Competition with a huge international participation. His students are prominent guitarists in Bulgaria and abroad. His discography includes both solo albums and duo performances and works together with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Vili Kazasyan and others. Petko Genkov was a friend and long-time member of the jury of the International Classical Guitar Competition in Kyustendil. A man with a huge heart and soul, who left a bright mark in the history of guitar art in Bulgaria.
